Once the reception venue has been booked and confirmed, it is time to start thinking about themes and decorations for your big day. The services of a wedding consultant will be able to help you with the decorations, themes and may even offer suggestions with other aspects of your wedding such as flowers, cakes and attire. Alternatively, you can choose to organise all the decorations yourself.

If you solicit the services of a professional decorator, make sure that you see some of their work before you sign a contract with them. It is important that you are able to communicate openly with your decorator, tell them what you want; after all, it is YOUR special day.

However, if your wedding budget does not allow for the services of a professional decorator, you will be able to get some ideas from friends and family, wedding magazines, your florist will be able to help you with table settings and centrepieces and even the reception staff may help you with getting some ideas from past celebrations. Things like lights, candelabras, chair covers, ribbons, and balloons are all readily available from any decoration specialist. Furthermore, decoration specialists will also be able to make some suggestions and recommendations to help you with your decoration needs.

Before you make any decisions about the decorations, you should decide on a theme. Do you want an elegant affair or a more relaxed celebration? Will the reception be held indoors or outdoors? Are there any colours that you want to incorporate into the theme? The theme chosen should also be incorporated into other aspects of the wedding also, not just the reception.
