Music (dj's & mc's)

DJ’s

As with any other aspect of your wedding, music will help set the perfect atmosphere for your celebrations. Selecting the right style – whether it’s presented by a DJ or personalised with a live band – is fundamental in creating a truly unique and memorable experience. Irregardless of which style you decide to go with it’s best if you employ the services of experienced professionals, who through consultations will gain a better understanding of your specific needs.

Questions to ask about your DJ

  • What type of music do you play?
  • Is the form of music I want suitable for my wedding? For example, having a large ten piece band may not be suitable for small intimate weddings
  • Have you worked at weddings before?
  • If you are going through a company, is the person you are talking to the same person who will be working at your wedding?
  • Can I request a particular song to be played at my wedding?
  • What’s included in the package? Is equipment hire, lighting and GST included?
  • When do I have to pay the deposit?
  • Are there any cancellation charges and refund policies that I should be aware of?
  • Are there extra charges if my wedding goes overtime?
  • How will the DJ or band dress? Is this appropriate for my wedding?
  • If you would like to cater for other guests, can you provide music in other languages?

When deciding on the music you want played at your wedding, it’s important to consider you and your partner’s tastes, as well as your guests. Choose songs that not only have a special meaning to you and your partner, but songs that your guests can enjoy and dance to as well. Also, make sure that your reception venue is large enough to accommodate a band, as you wouldn’t want tables crammed out onto to the dance floor.

MC’s

Hiring a professional to run the proceedings on your big night can be one of the best decisions you ever make. While it may be convenient to combine the services of a Master of Ceremonies with the services of a DJ, there are disadvantages to this arrangement. The duty of an MC is a full time responsibility, and organisation and schedule can be compromised if the MC has focus on the music and entertainment as well.
